Dogs
I have composed a series
of menu's that I feel offer variety (very important) and balanced
nutrition for my dogs. I have spent many hours researching raw food
diets and It is probably of no surprises that there is a wide range of views about what constitutes a proper balanced diet. At one extreme we have opinions that the diet should contain only meat bone and organs and contain no additional ingredients, and at the other are those who include a seemingly never ending list of ingredients with, sometimes, dubious value and which can greatly increase the cost.
I wanted to keep their food as natural and as authentic as possible to mimic the kind of diet they would have in the wild. This also meant varying the food to give them a balanced diet over the course of a week. After much research I decided to supplement my menus with a limited range of additional ingredients (salmon oil - because, sadly, most meat raised in the USA today is not pasture raised (fed on grass) and is lacking in important Omega 3's, the best kelp available (sourced from Iceland), and a small percentage of vegetables mainly for medicinal holistic reasons. These include pumpkin, apples, garlic and spirulina - for more information on what they contribute go here). An example weeks menu would look like this:
